On March 24, 2023, the \u201cJapan-China Licensing Business Exchange Seminar\u201d was held in Beijing, China, co-hosted by CODA, the Copyright society of China, and the National Copyright Innovation Base of China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This seminar, the first of its kind, will feature speakers from Japan and China who are experts in the field of licensing and copyright protection, and will provide a broad range of up-to-date information on the current status and challenges of the licensing business in China, as well as copyright protection and other issues, with the aim of promoting cultural exchange in the licensing business between Japan and China.
The seminar was held in a hybrid format, with online participation available in addition to the on-site venue. The local venue was attended by about 70 people, including Xiang Feifan, Deputy Director of the Copyright Department, National Copyright Administration of China, government officials, rights holders, industry associations, general business people, legal people, and educators, etc. The online audience consisted of CODA members in Japan and general rights holders in Japan and China, with approximately 200 participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the seminar, Yu Cike, Executive Vice President of the Copyright Society of China, and Ms. Kanako Watanabe, Director of the Media and Content Industry Division, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry(METI), made opening remarks.
Then, Sakiko Miyano, Deputy Director of the Media and Content Industry Division, METI, gave a lecture titled \u201cCurrent Status and Direction of Content Industry Policies\u201d on how the public and private sectors are working together to solve problems related to overseas development support and anti-piracy measures in the current age of content, and Chen Yan, Sponsor and Curator of Chinese Culture IP and Innovation Design Exhibition, Chairman of ELEZONE Technology Co., Ltd, gave a lecture titled \u201cCurrent Status and Prospects of China\u2019s IP Industry Development\u201d, and talked about the innovativeness of various collaborations that utilize cultural symbols such as traditional culture, \u201ccultural IP\u201d.
In addition, Yusuke Wakebe, CEO of IP FORWARD Group, gave a presentation titled \u201cThe Latest Situation of Content Licensing Business between Japan and China\u201d on how to proceed with business based on understanding and respecting the differences in business practices between Japan and China, and Wang Xiguang, Vice President of the Department of Public Affairs of Beijing Kaisheng Culture Media Co., Ltd. introduced the project development of a children\u2019s reading content brand titled \u201d Uncle Kai tells a story \u2013Brands Accompanying Chinese Childhood\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, Xin Jin, Chief Researcher of China Film Derivative Industry Research Institute, CEO of Beijing KEMEworks Creative Cultural Co.,Ltd, gave a presentation titled \u201cIncubation and growth of content IP in China\u201d, introducing the development of merchandising rights content of traditional \u201ccultural IP\u201d for young people, and Huang Changchao, President of Yiwu Cultural Products Industry Association gave an update on Yiwu\u2019s stationery industry under the title of \u201cPath to \u2018Quality Development\u2019 that Yiwu City, the \u2018World City of Small Goods\u2019, aims for together with the stationery industry\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Takero Goto, Representative Director of CODA, gave a presentation titled \u201cCODA\u2019s Role in the Japan and China IP Licensing Business\u201d, in which he introduced CODA\u2019s business development as a copyright certification organization for Japanese content in China and the special background of the Japanese content industry, which requires a copyright certification organization, and Liu Zhengcao, Deputy Director of Member Rights Protection Center of the China Copyright Society, gave a lecture titled \u201cDevelopment of the Creative Copyright Industry through Technology\u201d and provided a lecture on copyright management and protection system platforms that utilize new technologies such as blockchain, big data, and AI provided by the Copyright society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In closing, the moderator, Sun Yue, Vice-Chairman and Secretary General of the Copyright society of China, summed up the event by saying, \u201cWe would like to continue to build an effective cooperative relationship and make great strides together for the creation of high-quality IP, the development of the licensing business, and the improvement of digital literacy in both China and Japan.\u201d
