CODA has launched the \u201cAnti-Counterfeit Character Goods Committee\u201d with the aim of building a joint enforcement framework in response to the growing global distribution of counterfeit character goods linked to Japan\u2019s world-renowned content IP. This initiative is being undertaken with the support of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and the committee held its first meeting on May 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent years, Japanese content IP has gained significant global popularity and experienced rapid development. However, along with this growth, the damage caused by counterfeit character goods has become increasingly serious worldwide. In March, CODA held a roundtable discussion with relevant companies tackling the counterfeit character goods issue. During this meeting, participants shared updates on the current measures and the extensive damage being caused, and reached a consensus on building a joint enforcement framework for content IP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the first committee meeting, Mr. Norihiko Saeki, Director of the Culture & Creative Industries Division of METI, opened with remarks expressing high expectations for the committee and stressing the need for fundamental measures to address emerging challenges.
Following this, Fumio Yoshimura, President & Chief Executive Officer of TOEI COMPANY, LTD and Representative Director of CODA, emphasized the importance of pursuing effective measures against counterfeit character goods through the committee. Takero Goto, also a Representative Director of CODA, spoke about the background of the committee\u2019s formation and introduced specific initiatives that the committee aims to implement going forward. In addition, Zhu Genquan, Chief Representative of CODA\u2019s Beijing Office, gave a report on the current state of counterfeit character goods damage in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of nine companies participated in the meeting, which featured active discussions and questions reflecting the strong expectations for the committee\u2019s activities and future countermeasures. Going forward, CODA will further strengthen cooperation and recruit additional member companies to the committee. Through these efforts, CODA aims to build an effective joint enforcement framework against counterfeit character goods and actively contribute to the healthy development of content IP.
