CODA and the NCAC have established a dialogue channel through the CODA Beijing Office,” a Chinese NGO. They continue to exchange information on copyright-related laws and regulations. Additionally, opinion exchange meetings have been held during CODA’s visits to Beijing and on the occasion of visits by the NCAC to Japan. This time, the delegation visited Japan for intergovernmental consultations with the Japanese government and came to CODA during their stay.

The CSC, established in March 1990 under the supervision of the NCAC, is a national organization specializing in the field of copyright in China. It has 515 member companies and organizations from various fields, including publishing, software, film, visual arts, music, and theater, and engages in a wide range of activities. Since 2010, CODA and the CSC have co-hosted numerous training seminars and copyright awareness events, deepening mutual understanding between the two countries and promoting the healthy development of the content industry. Additionally, in 2023, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the aim of establishing a ‘strategic partnership on Japan-China content’. On this occasion, CODA invited the visiting delegation in preparation for the ‘2024 Japan-China Copyright Protection and Development Symposium,’ co-hosted by the Copyright Association of China and CODA, which was held the following day. The symposium aims to share information on the current status and challenges of copyright protection in both Japan and China, as well as efforts towards future development.

On the day of the visit, a meeting held at CODA’s conference room featured a presentation by Takero Goto, CODA Representative Director. The presentation focused on the achievements of CODA’s international enforcement project (CBEP) through collaboration with China, and emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships and international cooperation in combating piracy in the digital and online age.

About CODA
CODA (Content Overseas Distribution Association) was established in 2002 at the call of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Agency for Cultural Affairs to promote the overseas development of Japanese content and take anti-piracy measures. Japan’s proud content, including music, movies, anime, broadcast programs, video games, and publishing, plays an important role in enhancing the nation’s international presence and economic growth. As digital technology becomes more widespread, it is even more significant to protect Japan’s content from increasingly artful copyright infringement and promote the content industry’s development. CODA contributes to the deterrence and detection of online and other piracy, by sharing knowledge with relevant government agencies, organizations, and companies in Japan and abroad, to engage in direct and indirect anti-piracy measures, as well as public relations activities.
