News Courtesy Visit to Alibaba Headquarters in China and Exchange of Opinions

On July 24, 2025, during a business trip to China, CODA made a courtesy visit to the headquarters of Alibaba Group, one of China’s largest IT companies, located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The visit was made in response to an invitation from Alibaba.

A total of six representatives from CODA, including Representative Director Takero Goto and Beijing Office Chief Representative Zhu Genquan, participated in the visit. They received a briefing on Alibaba Group’s business development from its founding to the present day. The Alibaba team also introduced the company’s initiatives aimed at eliminating counterfeit products from its domestic e-commerce platforms, such as “Taobao (淘宝).”

In recent years, while interest in Japanese content IP has been growing in China, the circulation of infringing products such as counterfeit character goods has become a major issue. During the meeting, both parties shared the recognition that collaboration between CODA and Alibaba is critically important in addressing these challenges. They exchanged views on building a cooperative relationship moving forward.

This visit served as a meaningful opportunity for mutual understanding, and both CODA and Alibaba confirmed their intention to continue dialogue.

About CODA
CODA (Content Overseas Distribution Association) was established in 2002 at the call of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Agency for Cultural Affairs to promote the overseas development of Japanese content and take anti-piracy measures. Japan’s proud content, including music, movies, anime, broadcast programs, video games, and publishing, plays an important role in enhancing the nation’s international presence and economic growth. As digital technology becomes more widespread, it is even more significant to protect Japan’s content from increasingly artful copyright infringement and promote the content industry’s development. CODA contributes to the deterrence and detection of online and other piracy, by sharing knowledge with relevant government agencies, organizations, and companies in Japan and abroad, to engage in direct and indirect anti-piracy measures, as well as public relations activities.
