News Meeting with Hong Kong Customs

On August 19, 2025, CODA visited the headquarters of the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department in North Point, Hong Kong SAR, China. CODA expressed its appreciation for Hong Kong Customs’ investigations and crackdowns on rights infringement cases involving Japanese content and held a meeting to exchange views.

Since 2005, CODA and Hong Kong Customs have continuously cooperated in anti-piracy measures, achieving significant results through numerous enforcement actions. Furthermore, on April 26, 2022, CODA and Hong Kong Customs signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation aimed at protecting intellectual property rights and promoting public awareness in both Japan and Hong Kong. In March 2023, CODA presented a plaque of appreciation to Hong Kong Customs in recognition of its achievements in combating infringement of Japanese content.

CODA will continue to work with Hong Kong Customs and other authorities around the world to protect Japanese content IP and promote the healthy distribution of legitimate content.

This activity was carried out as part of a project commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI).

About CODA
CODA (Content Overseas Distribution Association) was established in 2002 at the call of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Agency for Cultural Affairs to promote the overseas development of Japanese content and take anti-piracy measures. Japan’s proud content, including music, movies, anime, broadcast programs, video games, and publishing, plays an important role in enhancing the nation’s international presence and economic growth. As digital technology becomes more widespread, it is even more significant to protect Japan’s content from increasingly artful copyright infringement and promote the content industry’s development. CODA contributes to the deterrence and detection of online and other piracy, by sharing knowledge with relevant government agencies, organizations, and companies in Japan and abroad, to engage in direct and indirect anti-piracy measures, as well as public relations activities.
