News CODA Hold Regular Annual Meeting with the Korea’s KCOPA

CODA visited the Korean Copyright Protection Agency (KCOPA) in Seoul, Korea on November 5, 2025, and held their regular annual meeting with KCOPA.
President Jung Youl Park from KCOPA, CODA Representative Director Takero Goto, and other members from both organizations attended the meeting.

This regular annual meeting serves as a forum for CODA and KCOPA to share the latest information and exchange opinions on antipiracy trends and issues, and to discuss the future direction of their ongoing international collaboration. During this year’s meeting, both parties engaged in an energetic exchange of opinions on recent activities and emerging issues in copyright infringement.

KCOPA was established through the integration of the copyright protection divisions of the Korean Federation of Copyright Organizations (KOFOCO) and the Korean Copyright Commission (KCC) under the guidance of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) in September 2016. Acting as a control tower for Korean copyright protection, KCOPA conducts a wide range of copyright protection activities domestically and abroad while collaborating with the private Copyright Overseas promotion Association (COA).
CODA and KCOPA deepened a close collaborative relationship that has developed over many years, including the signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in August 2017, with the aim of strengthening copyright protection for both Japanese and Korean content abroad.

CODA will continue to work to protect the intellectual property rights of Japanese content in both Japan and Korea through the exchange of information and collaboration with KCOPA.

Note that this activity was part of a project commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

About CODA
CODA (Content Overseas Distribution Association) was established in 2002 at the call of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Agency for Cultural Affairs to promote the overseas development of Japanese content and take anti-piracy measures. Japan’s proud content, including music, movies, anime, broadcast programs, video games, and publishing, plays an important role in enhancing the nation’s international presence and economic growth. As digital technology becomes more widespread, it is even more significant to protect Japan’s content from increasingly artful copyright infringement and promote the content industry’s development. CODA contributes to the deterrence and detection of online and other piracy, by sharing knowledge with relevant government agencies, organizations, and companies in Japan and abroad, to engage in direct and indirect anti-piracy measures, as well as public relations activities.
