News Courtesy Visit to the National Copyright Administration of China

On June 29, 2023, CODA visited Beijing, China, and paid a courtesy visit to the Copyright Department of the National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC). Five people attended the courtesy visit, including Mr. Wang Zhicheng, Director General of the Copyright Department, NCAC.

This visit to the NCAC was CODA’s first in three years and the first since Mr. Wang Zhicheng took office as Director General.
At the beginning of the meeting, CODA Representative Director Takero Goto expressed gratitude for the daily support from the NCAC. CODA then provided an overview of its recent activities, the status of China-related projects since the establishment of the CODA Beijing office, and information and suggestions regarding “Sword Network Action 2023” (※1).
Additionally, CODA had prepared a plaque in April to thank the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s Cultural Market Comprehensive Law Enforcement Supervision Bureau for their proactive responses to the Sword Network Action and administrative crackdowns. During the meeting, under the observation of the NCAC representatives, CODA was able to present this plaque.
Finally, NCAC introduced proposals for Japan-China exchange events and the upcoming “2023 China International Copyright Expo,” scheduled for this fall. Both sides exchanged opinions on various agenda items.

The discussions extended beyond the scheduled time, with frank and lively exchanges on numerous topics.
CODA will continue to share information and build relationships with the NCAC and further strengthen cooperation to protect Japanese content intellectual property rights in China.

About CODA
CODA (Content Overseas Distribution Association) was established in 2002 at the call of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Agency for Cultural Affairs to promote the overseas development of Japanese content and take anti-piracy measures. Japan’s proud content, including music, movies, anime, broadcast programs, video games, and publishing, plays an important role in enhancing the nation’s international presence and economic growth. As digital technology becomes more widespread, it is even more significant to protect Japan’s content from increasingly artful copyright infringement and promote the content industry’s development. CODA contributes to the deterrence and detection of online and other piracy, by sharing knowledge with relevant government agencies, organizations, and companies in Japan and abroad, to engage in direct and indirect anti-piracy measures, as well as public relations activities.
