On February 10, 2026, the 7th Joint Meeting on the Suppression of Advertising on Piracy Websites was held online.
This meeting was organized in 2019 by four organizations—CODA, JAA, JAAA, and JIAA—to promote cooperation among relevant stakeholders in implementing measures to suppress advertising placements on piracy websites. It has been held annually since 2019, and this year marked its seventh session.
At the meeting, the participants reviewed the operational status of the list shared since 2018 by the rights holder organization CODA and the advertising-related organizations JAA, JAAA, and JIAA for the purpose of excluding piracy websites from advertising placements. In addition, information was shared regarding recent trends in malicious advertisements attempting to circumvent these initiatives, the results of countermeasures taken, and the findings of investigations concerning advertisements displayed on infringing apps.
Committee members from the participating companies and organizations expressed the view that, through the continued cooperation between the content industry and the advertising industry in advancing these measures, a framework has been established that enables prompt consultation on new issues and swift responses. The participants agreed to continue discussions and cooperation going forward.
Both industries will further strengthen their collaboration and continue implementing measures to suppress advertising placements on increasingly complex and covert piracy websites.
This activity was carried out as part of a project commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
About CODA
CODA (Content Overseas Distribution Association) was established in 2002 at the call of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Agency for Cultural Affairs to promote the overseas development of Japanese content and take anti-piracy measures. Japan’s proud content, including music, movies, anime, broadcast programs, video games, and publishing, plays an important role in enhancing the nation’s international presence and economic growth. As digital technology becomes more widespread, it is even more significant to protect Japan’s content from increasingly artful copyright infringement and promote the content industry’s development. CODA contributes to the deterrence and detection of online and other piracy, by sharing knowledge with relevant government agencies, organizations, and companies in Japan and abroad, to engage in direct and indirect anti-piracy measures, as well as public relations activities.
