News Establishment of the “CODA Vietnam Center” in Vietnam

Strengthening Local Response Framework for Anti-Piracy Measures

CODA has established the “CODA Vietnam Center” in Vietnam in collaboration with a local law firm in order to strengthen countermeasures against copyright infringement originating from Vietnam, which has become increasingly serious.

In recent years, pirate websites on the internet have expanded across borders, and copyright infringement related to Japanese content such as manga and anime has become a serious global issue.
In particular, regarding Vietnam, it has been pointed out that operators of malicious pirate websites and related services are often based in the country, increasing the need for swift and effective countermeasures.

In light of this situation, CODA has established a contact point at a local law firm and will operate it as the “CODA Vietnam Center,” thereby building a cooperative framework with experts who are well versed in Vietnam’s legal system and practices and strengthening its capacity to respond to rights infringement. Through this initiative, CODA aims to carry out activities such as the collection of infringement information, requests for removal directed at site operators and related services, and the consideration and implementation of legal measures more quickly and efficiently than before.
In addition, by promoting cooperation and information sharing with relevant authorities, licensees, and other stakeholders in Vietnam, CODA will work to advance continuous and effective countermeasures.

CODA will continue to actively promote the protection of Japanese content rights overseas and the healthy development of legitimate distribution by strengthening international cooperation.

This activity is carried out as part of a project commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

About CODA
CODA (Content Overseas Distribution Association) was established in 2002 at the call of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Agency for Cultural Affairs to promote the overseas development of Japanese content and take anti-piracy measures. Japan’s proud content, including music, movies, anime, broadcast programs, video games, and publishing, plays an important role in enhancing the nation’s international presence and economic growth. As digital technology becomes more widespread, it is even more significant to protect Japan’s content from increasingly artful copyright infringement and promote the content industry’s development. CODA contributes to the deterrence and detection of online and other piracy, by sharing knowledge with relevant government agencies, organizations, and companies in Japan and abroad, to engage in direct and indirect anti-piracy measures, as well as public relations activities.
