CIB is the central agency responsible for directing and supervising criminal police operations throughout Taiwan. Since 2005, CODA has been conducting “Joint Enforcement” initiatives as part of its overseas anti-piracy measures, and for many years, CODA has received strong cooperation from CIB’s Intellectual Property Rights Infringement Squad and Telecommunications Investigation Squad in the crackdown on internet-related crimes in Taiwan, such as ISDs (illicit streaming devices), illegal apps, and piracy websites. In March 2023, CODA presented a commemorative plaque of appreciation to CIB in recognition of its achievements in investigating and enforcing actions against infringements of Japanese content rights.
This visit marked CODA’s first courtesy call to CIB in about two years and the first since Commissioner Mr. Chou took office.

During the meeting, CODA’s Representative Director, Takero Goto, expressed his deep gratitude for the significant contributions of the Intellectual Property Rights Infringement Squad and the Telecommunications Investigation Squad in cracking down on numerous infringement cases, and requested continued cooperation going forward. Both sides also engaged in an active exchange of views on various topics, leading to a meaningful dialogue aimed at strengthening future collaboration.

CODA will continue working with Taiwan’s enforcement authorities to implement effective measures to protect Japanese content rights locally. This initiative was carried out as part of a project commissioned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan.

About CODA
CODA (Content Overseas Distribution Association) was established in 2002 at the call of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Agency for Cultural Affairs to promote the overseas development of Japanese content and take anti-piracy measures. Japan’s proud content, including music, movies, anime, broadcast programs, video games, and publishing, plays an important role in enhancing the nation’s international presence and economic growth. As digital technology becomes more widespread, it is even more significant to protect Japan’s content from increasingly artful copyright infringement and promote the content industry’s development. CODA contributes to the deterrence and detection of online and other piracy, by sharing knowledge with relevant government agencies, organizations, and companies in Japan and abroad, to engage in direct and indirect anti-piracy measures, as well as public relations activities.
